On Tuesday September 24, 2019, the Assistant Commissioner of the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organisation (CAPO), Mr. Andreas Evangelou, visited The Cyprus Institute along with a delegation from CAPO.

Within the context of the visit, CAPO’s delegation, was given a short briefing on the Institute’s research and educational activities, and a guided tour of the CyI laboratories and other research infrastructures.

Both institutions have been discussing how to reinforce their collaboration, given that they are complementary in many ways. Of particular interest is the possibility of sharing advanced computing resources and data storage, as well as opportunities for developing strategic cooperation with the Cyprus Institute on issues related to the activities of the Organisation. Specifically, the collaboration focuses on areas related to IT infrastructure and application development, and cutting-edge technology support, such as spectrophotometry, satellite image analysis, use and applications with drones.

“It is clear from our discussions that this partnership is excellent news for all beneficiaries of agricultural payments in Cyprus. Moreover, there is a strong compatibility between our scientific research interests and the efforts of CAPO to support the agricultural community on the island”, mentioned Dr. Nicolas Jarraud, Assistant Vice-President for Institute Affairs.

Mr. Andreas Evangelou, noted that CAPO and The Cyprus Institute have many activities in common and wished for constructive cooperation between the institutions.

Finally, the delegation from CAPO expressed their thanks for the opportunity to visit, and congratulated the Administration and the Scientists of the Institute for the impressive, modern facilities and their research achievements.
