CaSToRC at a Glance
The Center in Numbers
CaSToRC has built an excellent reputation in Cyprus and abroad that is reflected in research output with about 20M EUR in secured funding and 200 publications since its establishment in 2009. The center currently employs 5 full-time (and 3 part-time/adjunct) faculty members, 20 postdoctoral researchers, 10 research engineers and research support personnel, and about 20 PhD students.
Flagship Projects
The role of EuroCC2 is to establish and run a network of more than 30 NCCs across the EuroHPC Participating States. The NCCs act as single points of access in each country between stakeholders and national and EuroHPC systems. As such, CaSToRC is designated by the government of Cyprus as the National Competence Center (NCC) in High Performance Computing (HPC) and related technologies of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Data Science (DS).
The QUEST project aims to make Cyprus “quantum ready”, aligning with the objectives of the widening program and the ERA chair action. The objectives of QUEST strengthen the role of CaSToRC as the national high-performance center of Cyprus, namely by the mission of the center to carry out computation-based interdisciplinary research, spread knowledge and provide support to local researchers in using computing technologies for research and innovation.
ENGAGE will train 20 Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) to use advanced computer technologies and methodologies for scientific discovery and innovation. ENGAGE pools together leading experts from major research centers and from some of Europe's best Universities to train the ESRs in high performance computing (HPC), data science approaches such as machine and deep learning (ML), and quantum computing (QC) and to apply them for solving problems from physics and engineering. |
