Our Process
At CyI, we follow a structured yet flexible process to move research from the lab to the market. We offer guidance at every step, ensuring that IP is protected, valued, and successfully commercialized.
1. IP Identification & Evaluation
Before commercialization, we conduct a thorough assessment to determine the ownership, protection strategy, and best commercialization pathway for each innovation.
- Ownership: Assess who owns the IP, whether it's the researcher, CyI, or external collaborators.
- Protection: Determine the best strategy for protecting theinvention.
- Commercialization Pathway: Decide the most suitable pathway for commercialization, whether licensing, technology transfer, or a spin-off.
To support IP awareness, we organize training, bootcamps, and entrepreneurship events, and we actively scout for IP through 1:1 meetings and discussions.
2. Technology Transfer & Commercialization
Once the IP is protected, we explore the most suitable commercialization strategies:
- IP as a Service: Offering IP-based solutions/services to external stakeholders.
- Licensing: Enabling companies to develop and market technology.
- Spinout Formation: Assisting researchers in creating startups.
- IP Sales: Selling IP to companies for further development.
3. Spinout Support
For researchers interested in launching their own companies, we provide a comprehensive support system:
- Initial Consultation: Understanding the spinout process and CyI’s framework.
- Due Diligence: Assessing IP, market demand, and freedom to operate.
- Business Case Development: Defining objectives and preparing for company formation.
- Spinout Creation & Growth: Forming the company and offering support services.
- Continued Mentorship: Coaching through business idea development.
