The Procurement Office of The Cyprus Institute recently participated in three significant events underscoring its commitment to promoting Socially Responsible Public Procurement (SRPP) as a transformative tool for advancing social impact and fostering a sustainable, inclusive economy.

On 20-21 November 2024, CyI’s Procurement Office presented its practical examples in SRPP at the WeBuySocialEU workshops, organized by the European Commission in collaboration with the Treasury of the Republic of Cyprus, the SYNTHESIS Center for Research & Education, and supported by AEIDL, ICLEI, Diesis Network, and REVES.

The event in Nicosia, on November 20, brought together experts and stakeholders to discuss innovative approaches to SRPP.  Representing The Cyprus Institute, the Procurement Office highlighted its experience in embedding SRPP principles into procurement processes, showcasing their potential to drive social impact and support the social economy.

The discussions continued in Limassol on the 21st of November, hosted by the Municipality of Kourion, with representatives from public authorities in Limassol and Paphos. This session further emphasized the pivotal role of SRPP in shaping procurement practices that prioritize social and environmental responsibility.

On 21 November 2024, Head of Procurement, Patrikios Tymvios, was also speaker at a webinar organized by PwC Belgium for the European Commission and DG Grow (Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs), focused on Measuring Social Impact in Public Procurement. This event provided a platform to share insights from implementing the first SRPP contract in Cyprus—a milestone achieved by The Cyprus Institute’s Procurement Office.

The webinar shed light on the measurable benefits of SRPP in creating equitable and inclusive societies and positioned The Cyprus Institute as a leader in adopting innovative procurement practices at both national and EU levels.

The active involvement of The Cyprus Institute in these high-profile events reflects the growing recognition of our work at both the national and European Union levels. Our efforts in sustainable and socially responsible procurement practices are not only influencing policy and practice across Cyprus but also contributing to the broader European vision of sustainable and impactful public procurement.

We remain committed to fostering collaborations and driving initiatives that align with our mission to lead by example in addressing societal challenges through innovative and socially responsible practices.
