The Cyprus Institute appoints ERA Chair in
One Archaeological Science
ERA Chairs are a major instrument of the Horizon Europe programme to support building advanced research capacity in selected countries within the EU, typically for a five-year duration. The
One Archaeological Science (
OneArchSci) project focusses on the deepening of our expertise in stable and heavy isotope studies across archaeological sciences, as a unifying approach for environmental archaeology, human diet and mobility studies, and archaeological materials research.
Over the next five years, Professor Patrick Degryse, an international leader in isotope studies, will work with us in Cyprus to develop new and improved analytical approaches, offering long-term opportunities for brain circulation and new research and training programmes. Specifically, the project foresees the employment at CyI of additional researchers specializing in isotope studies to ensure the sustainability of this initiative. Through this project, we will expand and strengthen the analytical excellence of researchers at the Cyprus Institute, building on the STARC team’s current expertise to include isotope studies to address key archaeological and environmental research questions in Cyprus and beyond.
We aim to make this new expertise widely available across sectorial boundaries, fostering links with government agencies, NGOs and SMEs in Cyprus. The kick-off event brings together leading stakeholders and is a unique opportunity to engage with all participants, explore mutual interests, and to start building a lasting network.
