POLYCHROMY: Analysis and conservation of polychromic archaeological artefacts and Byzantine paintings
The main objective of the project is to improve the knowledge on technological processes, provenance and preservation of polychromic archaeological artifacts and Byzantine paintings in Cyprus. The objective is to create high-level competences within CyI-STARC in the field of research on colorants and pigments, including combining 2D and 3D imagery, physico-chemical analyses and the creation of an implemented database of reference collections.
This goal will be achieved through the transfer of knowledge, which has been accumulated at C2RMF during many years of research on the subject, to the host organization (CyI), and which will enable high quality investigations on Cypriot archaeological and artistic material (polychromic archaeological finds and Byzantine icons and frescos). The project is the first stage (Stage 1) of a wider project to be developed in collaboration between STARC and C2RMF, with an overall duration of three years.
