Alexandros Pieri is a Research Assistant at the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC) of the Cyprus Institute. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Geography (BSc) from Durham University and a Master’s degree in Geospatial Sciences (MSc) from UCL.

In his bachelor's degree his studies focused on the interactions between Physical and Human Geography, with a particular emphasis on the applications of GIS and remote sensing in studying temporal change and interactions between spatial data. For his thesis he investigated crater gullies on the planet Mars through satellite remote sensing images to identify potential geologically recent water flows. In his Master’s degree in Geospatial Science he studied and applied 2D and 3D spatial data capture, processing, analysis and visualization. Following on from his Master’s thesis, he co-authored and published a paper investigating the development and application of Digital Twins in the Unreal Gaming Engine for the Construction sector.

Professionally, Alex worked in the UK’s gas distribution sector for 5 years, in roles involving asset data capture, quality assurance and data analytics. He is now working in CyI’s Virtual Environments Lab at STARC as a Research Assistant for the ‘Biodiversity and green in Mediterranean Historic City Centres’ (B_Green) project.
