The Ukrainian Ambassador, Dr. Boris Humeniuk visits The Cyprus Institute
The Ukrainian Ambassador, Dr. Boris Humeniuk visited The Cyprus Institute’s Athalassa Campus premises on Friday, 14th September. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr. Υan Orlovskyi, Counsellor on Economical Issues.
During the meeting the President of the Institute, Prof. Costas N. Papanicolas and the Vice-President for Research, Prof. Leonard Barrie presented the Institute’s overall vision and achievements and briefed the Ambassador about the progress on its strategic development plan. Dr. Petros Kareklas and Mr. Sotos Zakhaios, CyI Trustees were also present during the meeting. Particular emphasis was given to the significant achievements in the areas of Solar Energy and Desalination, Climate Change, and Computational Science, which highlight the regional nature of the Institute and establish it as a leading research institution in the Eastern Mediterranean. Reference was also made on the prospects of collaboration between The Cyprus Institute and Ukrainian universities and research institutions. The delegation visited a number of research laboratories of the Institute where CyI staff presented some of the main research activities, including the Cy-Tera supercomputer.
The Ukrainian Ambassador stressed that the two sides have great potential and wide prospects for cooperation and collaboration. Dr. Humeniuk stated that through effective and close scientific cooperation joint actions can be developed to combat common challenges and promote innovation towards a knowledge-based economy.
