Avgoustinos Avgousti
Avgoustinos Avgousti is a Computer Scientist, Software Engineer, Research Scientist, and University Educator with more than 20 years of international experience spanning academia, research, business, and technology innovation. He holds a PhD in Computer Science and Informatics from the Ionian University, an MSc in Medical Informatics from the State University of New York (SUNY), and a BSc in Information Technology from St. Francis College in New York. He also completed postdoctoral research at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, specializing in Research Software Engineering. During his years in New York City, he worked in the healthcare, nonprofit, and IT sectors, gaining extensive professional experience in enterprise systems, information technology, and digital infrastructure management.
Avgoustinos currently serves as a Senior Specialized Research Scientist since 2012 at The Cyprus Institute. In parallel, he is actively involved in higher education as an Adjunct Associate Professor in Computer Science and Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Cyprus, where he teaches courses in programming, software engineering, cloud computing, databases, systems analysis, and ICT in digital humanities.
His research and professional work focus on software engineering, artificial intelligence, semantic web technologies, and cultural informatics. He has served as Principal Investigator (PI), Work Package Leader, and Lead Research Software Engineer in numerous Local, European and international research projects, including Horizon Europe initiatives.
In addition to his academic and research contributions, he is also the founder of innovative digital platforms and initiatives such as CyprusArk, demonstrating a unique combination of academic excellence, research leadership, academic teaching expertise, entrepreneurship, and applied technological innovation.
