The recent Workshop on Green Public Procurement (GPP in Practice), hosted by the Interact Program in collaboration with Valentina Schippers-Opejko, Coordinator of the UAEU – Urban Agenda for the EU, served as a significant gathering to discuss green, sustainable, circular, and innovative procurement practices. This workshop brought together invaluable perspectives on how public procurement can play a vital role in achieving environmental goals through sustainable approaches.

Invited as a speaker to represent both The Cyprus Institute and Cyprus, CyI’s Head of Procurement, Patrikios Tymvios, showcased the Institute’s leadership in GPP and commitment to advancing environmental goals. The presentation included 4+1 practical examples from CyI’s own initiatives, each highlighting the Institute’s transformative approaches in:
  • Life Cycle Costing models
  • Green Cleaning Services
  • IT infrastructure based on the lowest cost
  • Sustainable furniture supply
  • Socially Responsible Public Procurement (SRPP)
Beyond sharing insights on green procurement, this was a unique opportunity to promote The Cyprus Institute and highlight the impactful work being driven by our researchers. The event underscored the pivotal role of GPP in addressing today’s environmental challenges and how we, as an institution, continue to be at the forefront of sustainable, responsible procurement practices.
