Andreas Mouskos, Founding Trustee and Long-time Friend of The Cyprus Institute Passes Away
The news of the passing away of one of the Founding Trustees of The Cyprus Institute, Andreas Mouskos, was received by the Institute’s community with deep sorrow.
Andreas Mouskos played a defining role in the establishment and development of The Cyprus Institute, as one of the very first visionaries to adopt and support the idea, of a new research and educational institution, which would promote research and education in Cyprus and the region.
The ambitious project was carried out under the aegis of the Cyprus Development Bank, led at the time by Andreas Mouskos. Supported by an outstanding team of scholars they shaped the core vision and undertook the overall coordination, research, planning and establishment of the Cyprus Research and Educational Foundation (CREF) and The Cyprus Institute. As the first Chairman of the Institute’s Executive Committee, he also steered the initial planning and creation of its first Research Centers and shaped their mission. His continuous unwavering support through the years allowed the Institute to overcome obstacles and flourish.
Andreas Mouskos was a leading politician and a champion of social justice and served as member of the House of Representatives for 10 years. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Development Bank. Adorned with generosity and morality, he earned universal recognition and admiration in Cyprus for the transformation of the economy and the cultivation of research and education in the country.
