Tracing History
at Saint John Lampadistis Monastery
18 April 2023 | 11:00
Tours: 12:30, 15:30 and 16:30
In collaboration with the British High Commission, the village of Kalopanagiotis, the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus, and the Bishopric of Morphou, the APAC Labs team at The Cyprus Institute invites you to join us as we unveil the UNESCO-listed medieval monastery's hidden stories. The passages of pilgrims, carpenters, painters and priests were recorded through time on the walls of Saint John Lampadistis. Discover how these stories were shared across Europe with the guidance of Matthew Champion, an international historic graffiti expert based in the UK.
Enjoy a day of dedicated tours and celebrate the UNESCO International Day for Monuments and Sites with us at the beautiful historic monastery of St. John Lampadistis in the village of Kalopanagiotis in the Troodos mountains.
In addition to an open exhibition of the results of some of APAC Labs’ research at Kalopanagiotis, guided tours given by our research specialists will be offered, free of charge, to participants at 12:30, 15:30, and 16:30.
This event is part of a larger programme of APAC Labs events held in celebration of three years of operation. Thanks to the generous endowment of Dr. Andreas Pittas, APAC Labs researchers have been developing task-specific service protocols related to material characterization and data integration, address issues of provenance, and assess the state of preservation of works of art, archaeological objects and monuments. APAC Labs Day at Kalopanagiotis allows us the opportunity to share the results of our work and foster the knowledge of our cultural heritage.
