HIPERDISCO - High-Performance, Data-Intensive, and Scientific Computing Joint Master Design
The project "High-Performance, Data-Intensive, and Scientific Computing Joint Master Design" (HiPerDISCo) will design a joint master's degree programme in HPC, scientific computing, and AI, to be offered by the Cyprus Institute, the Universities of Trieste, and the University of Rijeka. The program responds to the rapid convergence of advanced simulation and modelling techniques with the increased availability of large-scale data sets and the identified need for professionals with expertise in these areas. Leveraging the strengths of the participating institution, that each offer specializations in sub-areas where they play a leading role in their respective national landscape and beyond, the program will offer a comprehensive two-year education in these fields, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills to be acquired also as part of industrial internships.
The program that we will design foresees extensive collaboration and exchange between students and faculty from different Higher Education Institution of Europe with complementary expertise, facilitating the cross-fertilization between applications that benefit from HPC, scientific computing, and AI. Via flexibility in the curricula selection to foster interdisciplinarity and developing a network of partner companies and research centers that will enable mutual collaboration in the form of internships, we aim for a program that significantly increases the employability of the graduates by developing skills that are highly valued by employers and where there currently is an inability to completely fulfil in European. HiPerDISCo also strengthens collaborations and the integration of young EU member countries, by facilitating the mobility of young students between the partner countries for the creation of a shared EU vision and community.
