Mr Demetriou is an Ecologist with a Master's degree in Ecology and Biodiversity Conservation and currently a PhD candidate in Ecology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece).
His research revolves around the taxonomy, ecology, biological invasions, and biogeography of insects, with special interest to Hymenoptera. Mr Demetriou studies extensively biological invasions of insects in Greece and Cyprus as well as uses ants as model organisms to investigate invasion dynamics, biogeographic patterns and ecological associations.

He has also worked on numerous citizen-science projects advocating for stronger participation of the public in the scientific research of biodiversity, species’ distributions and interrelationships.
