Pinelopi Loizou is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) of The Cyprus Institute. She is engaged in climate data analysis for the funded projects PREVENT AND OPTIMESM. Before joining The Cyprus Institute, Dr. Loizou was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel (2023 – 2025). She holds a BSc in Applied Mathematics from the University of Cyprus (2016) in addition to an MSc in Applied Meteorology (2017) and a PhD in Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (2022) from the University of Reading, UK.
 
In her current role she aims to understand extreme events in the broader Euro-Mediterranean, Middle East, and North Africa region under a changing climate. This involves studying the dynamic drivers and potential impacts of extreme events in the region through the analysis of state-of-the-art observations and climate predictions.
 
Her research interests include Mediterranean and tropical cyclones, extreme weather events and their impacts, as well as decadal climate variability and future projections.
