Maria is currently serving as a Technical Research Specialist in Environmental Sciences Innovation at the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre (CARE-C) of the Cyprus Institute.
Maria has a blend academic and industrial experience that can be well used for the current role. She holds a Chemistry degree from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) earned with and MChem research study on Advanced Oxidation Processes in aquatic systems. She has a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Manchester, where she investigated non-thermal plasma technological methods for the degradation of gaseous and liquid waste. Her PhD work was further enhanced by a joint research study that she has been awarded from Japanese Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS Award in Postdoctoral Fellowship for North American and European Researchers).
In the industrial setting, Maria has worked more than 5 years in the pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industry. Her role has been involved with Product Development, Technology Transfer, lab to commercial scale-up, Quality Control, Regulatory Affairs and Compliance, Auditing, following GLP, GMP and SOP practices.
Maria has been trained in ISO 9001:2015, ISO 19011:2011, ISO 22716. She has also several years of teaching experience in higher education students and adults through undergraduate courses and seminars. She holds the HRDA Certified Vocational Training Educator, Level 3 CyQF/EQF.
Maria is currently working under the Horizon Europe Project “ENVRINNOV” at CARE-C, where she is involved in the development of strategies, tools and policies that will contribute to the creation of the Innovation Roadmap for the European Environmental and Earth System Research Infrastructures (ENVRI) community.
