Katiana is an Associate Research Scientist, member of the Climate System Processes (CliSP) research group at the Environmental Predictions Department (EPD) of the Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C). Her work focuses on regional/local climate modeling and the effect of urban and land surface parametrizations on climate.
Since September 2020 until August 2024 she was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in the same group and working on the same topic.
She received her PhD in Energy, Environment and Atmospheric Sciences from the Cyprus Institute in July 2020, her thesis is titled: “Assessing the Effects of Land Surface Schemes on the Climate of the MENA Region with the WRF Model”.
Previously, she was working as a Research Assistant at EEWRC in the field of climate change impacts on agriculture. She received a BSc in Physics and a MSc in Astrophysics, Geophysics and Meteorology with specialization in Meteorology from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridsky” in Sofia, Bulgaria. Her BSc thesis was titled: ”The sun as source of energy for the atmospheric processes” and her MSc thesis: “Verification of PRECIS regional climate model for the area of Bulgaria in the period of 1961-1990”.
