Event Details:
- Date: Friday, 12 September 2025
- Time: Starts: 12:00
- Venue: Join us in-person at the John Ioannides Auditorium, Fresnel Building, The Cyprus Institute
- Speaker: Dr. Solon P. Pissis, Senior Researcher, Networks & Optimization group, CWI, Amsterdam; Visiting Associate Professor, Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam
Abstract
This presentation outlines Dr. Pissis' research agenda, which combines rigorous theoretical results with thorough experimental evaluation to tackle fundamental challenges in graphs and strings. The focus is on developing scalable, efficient algorithms with direct applications in real-world problems. He will discuss some of my recent work, highlighting how these projects have tangible impacts on diverse fields, from money-laundering detection to data privacy and genomics.
About the Speaker
Dr. Solon P. Pissis is a Senior Researcher in the Networks & Optimization group at CWI in Amsterdam, where he leads the Algorithms and Data Structures for Sequence Analysis team. He is also a Visiting Associate Professor at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam.
Prior to CWI (2013 - 2018), he worked as a faculty member at King's College London. His research focuses on algorithms and data structures for big data, with an emphasis on graphs and strings.
