CyI Participates in the EU-Australia Leadership Forum (EUALF) as Member of the EU Delegation

The first EU-Australia Senior Leaders Forum (EUALF) recently took place in Sydney, Australia from 2-6 June 2017. EUALF is a unique project in the EU's suite of public diplomacy actions with a goal to broaden and deepen the existing ties between EU and Australia, and to demonstrate a shared commitment to the already strong bilateral relationship. It was officially launched in Brussels this past September, under the auspices of Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Julie Isabel Bishop, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia. Its overall objective is to help shape the vision for the bilateral partnership based on the future EU-Australia Framework Agreement and the forthcoming EU-Australia Free Trade Agreement. The Cyprus Institute, represented by its President, Prof. Costas N. Papanicolas, participated in the Forum as a member of the EU delegation.

The CyI President participated in the roundtable sessions on Climate Change, Innovation and Education, and had an opportunity to make contact, and explore areas of possible cooperation between CyI and a number of Australian research organizations, including the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), the Universities of New South Wales, Melbourne, Adelaide, and of South Australia. These newly established links will be further pursued in close collaboration with the High Commissioner of Australia in Cyprus, H.E. Alan Sweetman, and the relevant Cypriot authorities.
