Christos Fountoukis has a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. He received his MSc (2005) and Ph.D. (2007) from the School of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering of the Georgia Institute of Technology, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. In 2008 he was awarded a Marie Curie International Reintegration Grant and has worked as a post-doctoral Marie Curie fellow (2008-2012) and research scientist (2012-today) at the University of Patras and the FORTH/ICEHT institute (Foundation for Research & Technology – Hellas/Institute of Chemical Engineering Sciences). Since January 2014, he joined the Energy, Environment and Water Research Center of the Cyprus Institute as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. Christos has more than 10 years of experience in atmospheric chemistry/physics and climate modeling. He is author of more than 30 peer reviewed publications and 80 presentations in international conferences. Since 2003, he has participated in 14 national and international funded research projects.

 

Research Interests

Gas-particle interactions and their effects on air quality and climate change, Formation of Cloud Condensation Nuclei (CCN) - cloud microphysical properties, Regional 3-D Air Quality/Photochemical dispersion models, Transport and chemical transformation of gaseous and particulate pollutants in the atmosphere, Air pollution control strategies, Modeling aerosol-cloud-climate interactions, Development of new parameterizations of cloud droplet formation for use in Global Climate Models, Atmospheric aerosol nucleation – contribution to CCN and cloud droplet number concentration, Development of computationally efficient multi-component aerosol thermodynamic models, Short-lived climate forcing pollutants.
