EAS 505: Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics II

This course will address advanced chemical, physical and dynamical processes that determine trace gas distributions and aerosols in the atmosphere, based on a solid background in meteorology. It will examine the meteorological and photochemical processes that determine trace gas abundances and aerosol distributions from the surface to the stratosphere. Special emphasis will be given to the relation of chemical lifetime and atmospheric distribution as well as the time scales of the underlying transport processes. In addition it will address advanced techniques on how observations of atmospheric tracers can be used to identify dynamic transport processes and how in turn dynamics can be affected by the ambient trace gas distribution.
